How have religion, philosophy, and science shaped our human experience?

For at least 2,500 years, global cultures have struggled with how to incorporate observation and experimentation into the construction of worldviews and beliefs. Far from being a modern phenomenon, the struggle to bridge scientific facts and moral and spiritual values has long been a central issue for humankind.

Today we still have not solved this riddle as we aspire to a more complete understanding of nature that leaves room for the mental and subjective, even the religious. We will examine the tensions between concepts of God, humanity, and science historically, such as the Galileo affair and the Darwinian controversies; and even delve into contemporary issues such as transhumanism, stem cell research, neurotheology, and the challenges of modern atheism.
